NC GreenPower is an independent, nonprofit organization established to improve North Carolina’s environment through voluntary contributions toward renewable energy. The goal of NC GreenPower is to supplement the state’s existing power supply with more green energy – electricity generated from renewable resources like the sun, wind and organic matter. The program accepts financial contributions from North Carolina citizens and businesses to help offset the cost to produce green energy.

To become an NC GreenPower producer, you must be interconnected to the power grid. Small and mid-scale power producers, such as those who install residential-scale wind turbines or solar-electric systems, should work with their electric utility to interconnect to the system to the grid. The interconnection process can be tedious, but it is certainly not insurmountable.
Listed below are some documents and examples to help you with the interconnection process:
Interconnection Requirements for Major NC Electric Utilities:
Progress Energy’s interconnection standards for small producers
Duke Energy’s interconnection agreement for small producers
Requirements for the North Carolina Utility Commission’s (NCUC) certificate for public convenience and necessity:
