The Solar Center - Much More Than Solar!

The North Carolina Solar Center began in 1981 with the creation of a solar house built to research and demonstrate the benefits of passive solar, solar water heating, and solar electricity.

Since then the Solar Center has grown and expanded. With a full-time staff approaching forty people, the NC Solar Center covers all renewable energy areas including solar, wind, and biomass. The NC Solar Center also has teams dedicated to High Performance Buildings, Clean Transportation, Economic Development, Distributed Generation, and of course we manage the DSIRE project, the national "go-to" resource for renewable energy and energy efficiency policy and incentives.
